This GoKnot version (2.0) includes the program GnuGo version 3.6 as its gke engine.

GoKnot's author wants to make clear:
  • GnuGo is a program that was not created by GoKnot's author.
  • You can find information about GnuGo in its home website here.
  • GnuGo is available as source code at the same website. It is distributed under and GNU GPL license. See this for details.
  • For efficiency reasons, including: not having to reload the game each time the engine is acceded, not recalculating the same position many times in an analysis of different aspects, not having inter-process barriers running both programs as executables, and standardizing its interface to a gke engine, GnuGo was compiled as a Windows-dll called gnugo36.dll located in the \gnu subfolder of the directory where you installed GoKnot. The source code of this dll's project is in the Public Domain (but, of course, it requires GnuGo which is, as mentioned, under and GNU GPL license) and is included in the gke toolkit available here.
  • Unlike previous GoKnot versions there is no GnuGo executable, the dll has no other use than interfacing with GoKnot. If you want to use GnuGo directly you have to download it from its website.

The original copyright message (not visible as a dll) is:
